National Men’s Ministry Movement

National Men’s Ministry Movement
Missionary Church Association of Jamaica

The past year (2020), emanating from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has no doubt created a new normal. This new normal has been characterized not only by the exigent need for sanitization and the wearing of masks but also in social distancing protocols. Consequently, the activities related to the Missionary Church Association in Jamaica (MCAJ) National Men’s Fellowship (MMM), many of which would involve physical human contact, have also been impacted with many a plan for 2020 being thwarted.

Notwithstanding, the silver lining has been that the prevailing factors have provided us with the opportunity to re-set and to re-think our approach after many months of reflection, fasting and earnest prayer. Evidently, now more than ever, we are assured that the Lord is about to do something new in the lives of our men; it is beginning to spring up- we perceive it, and we believe it! (Isaiah 43: 19-21 refer).

Proverbs 29:18 (a) aptly reminds us that “where there is no vision, the people cast off restraint.” In a similar vein, Habakkuk 2 verse 2 encourages us to “..write a vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run, who reads it.”

Consistent with the aforementioned approach we have sought to devise a Strategic Plan for 2021 charting the path forward and to address the issues emanating from a S.W.O.T. analysis the MMM executive conducted earlier this year. In addition, we took cognizance of a Natural Church Development carried out in the past (done at GMC) and used the results as a proxy to treat with some of the issues facing the MMM (Proverbs 16:3).

These initiatives are encapsulated in the following Seven-Point Plan which will be rolled out, in order to guide our activities for 2021 and beyond:

  1. Re-creating an Executive Committee at regional or local levels drawing from a wider pastoral involvement of the M.C.A.J.
  2. Partners in Prayer and Pastoral Support Program (fashioned after John Maxwell program).
  3. Men’s Membership Registry, National Business Registry and Christian Leadership Club (e.g. Toastmasters International)
  4. Mentorship & Youth Sponsorship Program
  5. Strategic Alliances with other male group church ministries; National Conference
  6. Outreach Ministries-Hospital; Prison
  7. Monthly National On-line Man-focused meetings, Cell Group or Cottage Bible study.

In terms of the structure of the Executive Committee, which was also revamped, the following obtains as a model going forward:

Incidentally, for the 2021-2022 year the following persons have been appointed for service on the MMM Executive Committee:

  • Denis L. Gray, President and Chairman (Director of Finance & Projects)
  • Pastor Shanni Bennett-Executive Vice President-Small Group Ministry
  • Brother Walter Williams-Executive Vice President-Evangelism
  • Noel Brown-Co-Opted Executive Member
  • Elder Steve Khan-Co-opted Executive Member
  • Brother Raymond Ingram-Treasurer and Recording Officer (with all positions reporting to the chairman)

Finally, the MMM’s mandate, as reflected in both our Mission and Vision Statements, is aligned to the Movement’s broader purpose which is:

  1. To bring men into a Personal Relationship with Jesus Christ (Christ-Centered).
  2. To unite men in Bible Study (Word-Impacted), Prayer (Prayer-Focused), Ministry, Fellowship and Accountability.
  3. To create a Supportive Environment that touches the lives of the entire Church Family (Ministry-Engaging).
  4. To promote mentoring opportunities that lead to significant vital relationships (Relationship-Building).
  5. To provide a series of events that will promote Fellowship, Outreach and Evangelism.

Essentially, the referenced plans will serve as a fundamental foundation upon which the Men’s Ministry Movement will focus as we reposition and rebrand ourselves for renewed engagement. For nothing is impossible with God (Luke 1 verse 37 refers).
