Steps To Salvation

ARTICLE OF FAITH

We believe that all men are sinners and guilty before God. They are dead in trespasses and sin, and cannot save themselves. God has, out of His infinite love, given His son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to become man’s Saviour. Genuine repentance is a necessary attitude and act of man that makes it possible for the holy and just God to forgive man’s sins. Faith must accompany repentance. It is the act of will whereby man embraces the promises of God and appropriates to himself the provisions of God’s grace.

When the requirements of repentance and faith have been met, God justifies and regenerates the sinner.

God's Provision of Salvation
The Bible states that when we receive salvation we become a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17). What does God do when we believe Christ and receive Him as our personal Saviour? (See John 1:12, John 10:10, Romans 5:1).

Salvation involves repentance. Repentance means “turning and going God’s way”. It is a change of mind or attitude. This is much more than merely being sorry for our sins, it is changing the direction of our lives from wrong to right.

God's Provision of Salvation
Salvation also involves faith. Faith is trusting God to do what He promised. Using Ephesians 2:8-9, answer the following question.

In addition to repenting and trusting God, we must confess that Jesus is our living Saviour (Romans 10:9, 10).
