We continue our reflections on the churches in the Book of Revelation. We are still listening to what the Spirit has to say to the churches for these messages are also for us even though they were written to the churches back then. Today we look at the congregation of Sardis. Our reference is Revelation 3:1-6.
Ancient Sardis was a very important city. It was a center for trade and also a military center because of its strategic location. However, at this time, the church, like the city, was but a shadow of its former splendour, alive in name only. The message to Sardis is a warning to all churches. What drives us as a church? As a congregation? Are we dead or alive?
