For the month of May 2022, we will examine descriptions of God from the Bible that are not often emphasized in worship. Our goal is that by examining these traits of God we will increase our understanding of Him and thereby enhance our worship. The five descriptions we will look at are God as Worker, God as Mother, God as Husband, God as Gardener, and God as Watchman.
Today we examine the portrayal of God as Husband. He is likened to a Husband to Israel in two Old Testament passages, Isaiah 54:5 and Jeremiah 3:14. If God is a Husband to Israel, then there must be a marriage and a wife. As in most marriages, where the man chooses the woman he wishes to marry, God is also the One who chose His bride. The people of faith, whether Jew or Gentile, enter this permanent marriage with God as Husband, and we will be His loving bride.
