From early 2020 until the present the world has been hit by a series of crises, some of which have been described as unprecedented. While some have opted to debate that the COVID-19 Pandemic is not the worst health crisis to have faced Jamaica, there is hardly a dissenting voice suggesting that it is not justifiably labeled a crisis. While still in the throes of that crisis, along came the Russia-Ukraine military and political crisis. There has not been a facet of society that has not been impacted.

To say that there is a looming global food insecurity train barreling down the track at us is perhaps an understatement. The Bible is not short on stories that revolve around food shortages. Some were war-induced. Others would today be classified by insurance firms as “Acts of Nature” or “Acts of God”, from locusts to droughts to horticultural plagues. The food shortage in the time of the Widow of Zarephath comes to mind. Her actions in the midst of a personal crisis are the model being proposed today.
