We are fast approaching the end of Reggae Month, a month when the baseline feels heavier, the drumbeat feels louder and when the sound of Jamaica rises from “yaad” to the world. However, today we go deeper. We ask the sacred questions, “Can reggae be worship?” “Can baseline become benediction?” “Can rhythm become reverence?”

Reggae was born in Jamaica’s struggle, but it was raised in scripture, from Psalms in Trench Town to praise on the global stage. Reggae has always carried a spiritual pulse. Today, we explore reggae and worship, when rhythm becomes prayer. We are joined by Reverend Dr Stevenson Samuels, JP, the senior Pastor of the Waltham Park New Testament Church of God. He has provided leadership and management in the fields of education, religion, music, engineering, counselling, Youth development, and Male formation.

Dr Margarett Barnett is a Vice President of Jamaica Theological Seminary. She has spent over 20 years working in private and nonprofit organisations that provide services to young people and their families.
